La Cocina VA’s mission is to use the power of food as an agent of social and economic change to generate workforce and economic development.

Our strategic goals are: To train, certify and to place unemployed low-income women and men, primarily immigrants, in meaningful jobs in the food service industry; to improve their English skills; and to build a stronger community that supports this population to become self-sufficient and financial independent.

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

Living Classrooms Foundation strengthens communities and inspires young people to achieve their potential through hands-on education and job training, using urban, natural, and maritime resources as "living classrooms."

LCAC helps tp prevent homelessness by offering emergency financial assistance for rent or mortgage, as well as utilities. The importance of keeping individuals and families safe, stable environment cannot be over-emphasized, since the steadiness of " a place to call home" impacts all aspects of a family's life from employment to a child's performance in school.

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a volunteer-powered nonprofit dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected, and abandoned animals from certain euthanasia and finding them loving forever homes. We educate the community and all pet owners on responsible pet parenting, including the importance of spay/neuter, obedience training, and good nutrition.

Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA) accompanies those in need to foster resiliency, self-sufficiency, and access to opportunities by creating, connecting with, and engaging welcoming communities. 

March of Dimes fights for the health of all moms and babies. We're advocating for policies to protect them. We're working to radically improve the health care they receive. We're pioneering research to find solutions. We're empowering families with the knowledge and tools to have healthier pregnancies. By uniting communities, we're building a brighter future for us all.

Melwood advocates for and empowers people with disabilities by expanding opportunities to work and thrive in the community.

The Mission of the MC6 Foundation is to support the development of children of active. reservist, retired, and veteran military families. We strive to provide resources, support, and advocacy to ensure that military children have access to the same educational, social, and emotional opportunities as their civilian counterparts. We are committed to help build resilient and adaptive children by promoting the mental, physical, and emotional health of military children and families.
