Bush, founder of Points of Light - the world's largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. Volunteer Spotlight - PRS, Inc.

In October, volunteers from Regency Centers completed their Day of Service project at mental health nonprofit PRS’ Fairfax Recovery Academy Day Program. PRS is a local nonprofit that helps individuals living with serious mental health issues and facing life crises and is a partner of Volunteer Arlington. Regency Centers volunteers created a garden with fresh flowers and herbs that clients will use for cooking. Volunteers also landscaped, power-washed, and organized activities with the clients including making bird feeders and decorating mini-pots of herbs for clients to take home.

The Jennifer Bush-Lawson Foundation, a young and growing nonprofit founded in 2014 following the untimely death of Jenn Lawson, knows that the success of its annual event is due in large part to its fearless and dedicated event co-chairs. One event co-chair in particular deserves special recognition for the time she’s volunteered to the organization: Elizabeth Ingram.

Volunteer Spotlight: A Pair of Jeans

The Family Service Award was given at Arlington Cares this year to a family who has made caring and volunteerism a core value. The first recipients of this award were self described as “a pair of jeans!” - Gene and Jeanie Cross were celebrated for their work with their faith community, Central United Methodist Church and A-SPAN.

Kate Athing and the Marymount Women’s Lacrosse Team of are the 2018 recipients of our Distinguished County Service Award, presented at Arlington Cares. This team has volunteered with AHC, Inc’s After School Program once a week for the last three years! By returning year after year, the team has gotten to know the students and their families.

The vast majority of older Americans want to age in their own homes. Arlington Neighborhood Village (ANV) was founded in 2013 to help our neighbors do just that. Our goal is to provide services and support to our more than 215 members, aged 55+, so that they can live vibrant, independent lives in their own homes and community.
